Mr. F. Gass: Independent Teaching Certificate, Diploma in Music
Music, Band, and Drama
Mr. Gass has studied trumpet with Leonard Whitely (BBC Orchestra, London), Bobby Herriot, Stewart Carpenter (Eastman), Boyd Hood (Los Angeles Symphony), and Bobby Hilton (Norad Command Band). Mr. Gass studied at Douglas College, Vancouver City College, and at the University of Victoria. He has over 30 years of professional experience in the commercial jazz field having worked with such notables as James Brown, Bozz Scaggs, Rosemary Clooney, Al Martino, Frankie Stevens, Frankie Lane, Red Skeleton, The Platters, Stephen Stills and more. He taught at St. George's School for Boys for a decade before moving to Kelowna where he taught clinics at many local schools. He has been musical director for theatre productions such as: South Pacific, The Gondoliers, Pirates of Penzance, Guys & Dolls, A Funny Thing On The Way To Forum. Mr. Gass taught at the Central Okanagan Academy for five years, and is currently in his fourth year at Glenfir School. He has also directed summer jazz school for 15 years. When not teaching, Mr. Gass still actively plays and records music with the Michael Garding Big Band. His son James attends Glenfir and also plays the trumpet.
