Outdoor Education
The benefits that stem from an outdoor education programme are numerous. The Glenfir School delivers a diverse, enriched, Outdoor Education Programme, which provides students with the opportunity to explore and discover the natural world, and their relationship to it. Our programme is structured as a vehicle to promote personal growth and leadership opportunities, and to build environmental awareness and respect within our student body. This is developed through programming which provides our students with opportunities to work collaboratively and co-operatively within an outdoor setting. Our outdoor programme has included: river rafting, winter camping, canoeing, skiing and snowboarding, horseback riding, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, hiking, dog sledding, orienteering, snowshoeing, and outdoor survival training sessions. Outdoor experiences provide our students with problem solving, leadership, and team-building opportunities within a natural, inspiring environment.
In the 2007/2008 school year, outdoor education will take place in eight full-day sessions. Each session will take place on a Friday, approximately once a month. These dates are listed on the school calendar.
