Special Activities Programme
This year, 2009/2010, we continue to enhance our existing curriculum with a view to enrichment. Students in grades four to six will have one enriched block each week. This block will expose students to a variety of different subjects and activities in the area of sports, arts, and academics. These activities will be teacher led and will occur as a group. Students in grade seven to twelve will have three special activity blocks per week. These elective blocks will provide students the opportunity to participate in either: Art and Music, a Sport, or an Enhanced Individual Studies program by correspondence. If a student chooses Enhanced Individual Studies, they must indicate whether they would like to complete the course in one, two, or all three terms prior to the beginning of the year.
Arts
Each term, students who show a special interest in the arts and would like to further explore that interest, will be able to choose between several artistic endeavors to participate in up to one afternoon per week throughout the term. These range from fine arts, such as painting, pottery, and drawing, to drama, web design, photography, or "Rock Our World", an international project in which students across continents work together online to make movies or tell stories. These activities will be in addition to the art programme offered to all students in the regular weekly curriculum.
Sports
In addition to our exemplary physical education programme, which includes daily, extra-curricular activities before and after school, and lunch time intramurals, the sports option of the programme will offer students the opportunity to participate and learn about specific sports of interest. For example: soccer, golf, tennis, rock climbing, and track are a few of the sports that can be offered in this area and will be taught by qualified teachers and/or professionals.
Special Projects / Enhanced Individual Studies
Students who have a special area of interest, which they would like to explore, are encouraged to select a course for the term or year. This course will be done by correspondence, but will be structured and supervised by teachers and/or professionals.
