Male and female reproductive systems
2008-05-14 13:14:41
In the last few classes we discussed the male and female reproductive systems. Structures and functions of organs and hormones were summarized.
On Friday students will complete an open-book quiz on 21.1-21.3.
They will write the test on the human reproductive systems on Wednesday, May 21st.
nervous system and pathology
2008-05-06 16:53:07
The last few classes the grade 12 students reviewed the nervous system (TEST tom Wed, May 7). Theyhad thegreat opportunity to visit the Penticton's pathology laboratory and morgue, where they witnessed dissections of a heart, lungs, and a brain.
Homework assigned:
prepare for ch. 17 test => Wed, May 7
brain anatomy
2008-04-11 12:06:43
Today we studied the anatomy of the brain. Using visual and tactile models structures were identified and functions reviewed. Then, the structure of the reflex arc was discussed, and we observed a cross-section of the spinal cord under a microscope. We tested our knee jerk reflex.

the nerve impulse
2008-04-09 20:35:46
Today we discussed how nerve impulses travel through the axon of a neuron, and how it is transmitted from one axon-ending to the next neuron.
Homework assigned:
complete the take-home quiz on 17.1 => due tomorrow, Th, Apr 10

nervous system
2008-04-03 16:15:29
Today we briefly reviewed what was covered in the course so far, and what we have left to study. Then the students were introduced to the nervous system. We discussed the outcomes of this unit in detail.
Homework assigned:
Summarize 17.1 incl. references to the outcomes => there will be a quiz on Wed, Apr 9 !!
urinary system review
2008-03-10 16:11:48
We discussed the quiz on the urinary system. The students made corrections to the written response questions.
Homework assigned:
prepare for digestion, respiration, and excretion TEST on Wednesday, March 12
urinary system and homeostasis
2008-03-05 13:36:55
The students wrote a quiz on chapter 16. They were allowed to use their notes and summaries on this quiz, as an incentive to write summaries with sufficient detail.
Homework assigned:

N waste, osmoregulation and the nephron
2008-02-29 15:04:39
We discussed the structure and functioning of the nephrons in the kidney, in relation to osmoregulation and the removal of nitrogenous waste.
Homework assigned:
- write a detailed summary of 16.3 Regulatory Functions of the Kidneys => due Mon, Mar 3

gas exchange kidney anatomy
2008-02-27 14:09:04
We completed the chapter on respiration with a discussion of the chemical reactions involved with gas exchanges in the lungs and in body tissues.
Then we investigated the anatomy of the kidney by dissecting a specimen. We were able to identify: renal cortex, renal medulla, renal pelvis, renal arteries and veins, and the ureter.
Homework assigned:
prepare a detailed summary of 16.1 and 16.2 => due Friday, 2/29
